"Think in the morning. Act in the noon. Eat in the evening.  Sleep in the night." -William Blake

Woo! The weekend is here!  Today's email is going to be quick and to the point.

The holidays are here.
The kids will be out of school.
The running around season is beginning.
Now is the time to think about gratitude.
Feel the gratitude.
Stop and embody it.
Practice it.
Practice gratitude.

Again, practice gratitude.

And when you do, it will change your day, your week and your life.

Here are two of great quotes I love that basically sum it up!

"'Thank you' is the best prayer that anyone could say. I say that one a lot. Thank you expresses extreme gratitude, humility, understanding." -Alice Walker

"Be grateful for what you have and stop complaining--it bores everybody else, does you no good, and doesn't solve any problems." -Zig Ziglar

I have never been known to keep my cool.
Not that I am a nut case and fly off the handle all the time, but I do believe what I believe.
Black or white.
I am as passionate as they come.

So please.  Don't get me started on politics.
Don't get me started on how the Moms Club should be run.  (LOL!)
And for your own sake, don't get me started on what I would do if I ruled the world.
LOL!

Boy - I tell you - it would be fun!

LOL!

That said.
When I was younger, I would fly off the handle and argue for arguments sake.
Everything to me is black or white.  I can be convinced of gray area, sure, but to start it's black or white.
Right or wrong.  Good or bad.
I am a softy so I can be swayed so I remain open minded.  But immediately, I have an opinion and a strong one at that.

As I am growing up over here... I am learning to use this passion as a skill.
A skill for learning, improvement and growth for myself and everyone around me.
(Here comes Mama Bear.)

I have learned to use my passion, slowly, patiently, methodically but still as powerfully.
Just as one would a connector, an organizer, heck - a methodical baker...

What skill do you have in your back pocket over there?
How are you using it to acquire what you want and need today?
(Just today.)

Think on it.

The 3 Different Types of Performance Tasks & Why You Need Them All

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” Mae West

Wooo! It's Monday!!

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

I heart Mondays as much as I love a good giphy!

There's a personal performance model that I love to plan my week around.

These are the three types of tasks we do.  Those we have to, are able to and want to.

The tasks:

  • Have To are just that, the ones that are imposed upon us or demanded of us.
  • Able To are the ones within our capabilities
  • Want To are tasks that correspond with what we want to do.

We have a mix of these tasks through out our day and throughout our weeks.  We have to do some of all of these tasks.   And we do inherently.
Now, the goal is to have a good mix of this.  The goal brings us variety.

Variety is something that stimulates us.  It's something we need too whether we realize it or not.
Variety helps us grow.  Growth is another need of ours.
Growth leads to significance and perhaps more connection and love too.

So as you plan out... think of how these simple tasks, Have ToAble To and Want Toare impacting your life.
Creating your life and giving you the things you seek.

Your work matters.

"For your bravery, hard work, and dedication to our country, we thank you."

On Wednesday, we talked about how 17% of employees say they would literally rather watch paint dry than attend a meeting
And I find that so so funny.
I have certainly been to my share of time-waster meetings.

Truth is though, I am actually very, very, very good at hosting meetings.
I mean, VERY good.

So why was I skipping for joy when my morning was freed up?
It meant I got to focus my energy on my high priorities.

You see I have client work and I have Power Squad Project work.
It's fun how I live for PSP.

Then I read this blog post about cancelled meetings from Seth Godin.

So here's what you need to do.  Meetings should be often and quick.  They are for sharing the facts, offering out good things and problems.  You decide on solutions and walk away to work.  If you are efficient, this can be a 5-10 minute meeting.  20 minutes maximum.  Anything else you are exchanging information and really this is a training or a relationship builder.

Quick.  To the point.  Moving people in action.

Start there and ask any questions.

When an immense amount of gratitude comes pouring in...

Gratitude - fb.png

"It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped." -Tony Robbins

So much has happened this past week, it's hard to even fathom that it's just Wednesday.

Truth be told I feel like I got punched in the gut and a cold shower of gratitude poured on me.

Let's see.
--> Sunday there was yet another horrible and horrific shooting.  How was this possible?
--> There was an amazing woman (WOMAN) who won the NYC marathon for the first time in 40 years!  How many times did she hear about how no woman in her lifetime had won?  She turned the impossible to I'm Possible.
--> Found out my neighbor's 6 mo son has a super rare epileptic disease and the "prognosis is not good".  What?  Again!  How is this possible?
--> My GF called to tell me her dad was being put on hospice.
--> And my cousins livein GF is being a bigger jerk than ever.

As I write this I think of three more stories of terrible news.
So I turn to the good news and threw on some Tony Robbins and try not to feel like a complete jerk for not being so incredibly grateful for the crazy life I do have.

A punch in the gut is good sometimes.
I have to admit perhaps all this bad news what I needed in this moment to kick it up a notch.

And today, in Tony Robbins' talk, he said in order to be in the Hall of Fame for baseball you have bat a 30% average.  (Or something like that.) But he pointed out that all of these HALL OF FAMERS have a 30% or 3 out of 10 success rate.  And they are entered into the Hall of Fame for a job well done!

So, on this day, cheers to you, cheers to me.
Celebrate what you do have, what you are accomplishing even if it's a just a quick shower!

He says he chose the ‘fellowship’ instead of just ‘friendship’ because, “for me the word fellowship conjures a vision of traveling down the road together.”

What the Fall Season Does For Your Psychosis

"You can have results or excuse but not both." -Unknown

If psychosis is a "break from reality" then man oh man bring on a good, Fall day.

A Fall day to create a new, yet real reality.

When I lived in DC, I lived on this street tucked into the suburbs of the city.
It was cool and crisp in the Fall.  The leaves were as bright and colorful as you could daydream about.
There on 37th Street, NW you could walk down the street and there would be a canopy of colored leaves over you.

    THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

We would walk our dogs in with our neighbors in the afternoon.
Sometimes, we'd finish the walk with a glass of wine and continue with each other's company.
Other times, we'd have hot tea, a fire and Eva Cassidy in the background.  Not kidding.

When I tell you I love Autumn Leaves, I mean it.
There's this beauty that is forced on you.  So much so that if you ignore it, you're the a@@hole.

So we embrace the good.  The colors.  The cold.
And we create more from it.

We created stronger friendships.  More peace.  More conversation.
    More balance.
    More time.
Actually, in that time, we create a business partnership too. So, yes, we created money too.

We took the life that was given us and we created more from it.
We embraced what could be a negative... (Oh no! It's cold!)
And we ran with it.  We created magic from it.

    And so can you.

Do you ever feel like you've got that black cloud following around you?

Like you can't possibly try to change this hard to change and the day, the days go past you nothing has happened yet?

I talk with people of all levels of success and it's the same conversations.
    When does the change come?
When does the real success come?

When will I be free?  Safe?  Secure?
    When will it be enough?

Everyone, and I mean everyone, talks about what the next person is doing.  What the other person has, what projects they are doing and money they are generating.  How they wish they were at that level.
    And they sigh.

As if they are missing something.  As if it's perfect to be in that other position.  To be that other person.
    And maybe it is.
    Strong maybe here.

I work with plenty of stars and celebrities.  I work with people who demand tens of thousands of dollars per project.
    And guess what.
    Everyone is struggling.

If I didn't care about you, I would tell you you are right.  They have it all.  They have the fame.  They have some fortune.
I'd be there next to gossiping about her sloppy moves so we could hate on her too.

But the truth is we all have our stuff.

I want to tell you badly that they were lucky, that they got their big break and someone just found them.  Wa la.
Magic happened for them, magic will happen for you.

But it doesn't work that way.  That's not real life.
What they do, even with all their stuff, is focus.
    And drive.
    And push.

    Again and again and again.
    And again.

They accept the humiliation.  They accept the circumstances in front of them.
    And they push.

Everyone tells us we have to do what scares us.  Whatever that means.
Really, what you have to do is push yourself.

Start with 20 minutes.  Push yourself for 20 minutes today.
