"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse." The Godfather

I have recently had a whirlwind of phone calls lately.  28 calls in 2 weeks.
That included 5 cancellations and three reschedules.

I thought it was 19 but really it was 28.

I just counted.
Holy goodness, right?

Some were client calls, training calls, virtual coffee calls, sales calls, potential partnership calls, follow up calls and simply nice-to-meet-you calls.

One thing I know for sure, I can now tell the future.

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

And the difference is Clarity.
Holy goodness, Clarity.

I talked with a man who was on his way to get funding for the studio he was opening by May.  He knew precisely how much money he was asking for, his expectations of revenue, the different revenue streams and what his high and low expectations were.  He was happy to send over an almost 40-page business plan.

I wanted to hug him.

A woman I talked with didn't quite have a technical business plan in place but she had actionable steps.  End of January this, then once that happens then she will focus on the next part of the gig.

Another woman plain and simply wants "regular and recurring income from a TV series".
Simple and clear.
I love it.

Another woman has her ideal client picked out, knows precisely what she will charge and the exact number of clients she wants to work with this year.
Simple and clear.
Let's do it.

Clarity.
When you have that kind of clarity you can create.
You can really expand.
You can really grow.

Then there were others.
"Umm... you tell me what my goals should be."
That one made me literally laugh out loud.

And the ... I am doing 6 things at one time.  The book, the e-commerce site, the health food product creation, the masterclass oh and yes, I want to be on Reality TV.

I have more empathy for the person doing 6 things than the person who wants me to determine their goals.

But both versions need work.
They need to do the legwork.

With clarity, you can create anything.
Without it, you will just flounder.

Pick ONE or TWO things MAX and go!

"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse." The Godfather

Traditional business is back.

It's that simple and that hard.
How do I know?  Because I know.

I am doing the dirty work.  I am having the conversations.
Many, many conversations.

In fact, I have had more conversations with entrepreneurs, business owners, friends, and colleagues lately than I have ever had in my entire career.

Woo!
My calendar is booked to the brim.  And I love it.

I am talking with entertainers.
Creators.
Big-time bloggers.
Service providers.

Here's what everyone is talking about.
Taking action.
Creating relationships.

Doing what's unnatural to them, to ensure success.
Or, hiring it out.

This January seems to have a slow start for some.  And I get it.
This flu is awful!
This snow is terrible.
The world works in funny ways.

But you have to do what's unnatural.
You have to have trick yourself into believing the unnatural is good for you.
Is fun for you.
Is a big moment for you!

You have to do anything it takes to create the momentum and let it set fire!!

(This Beyonce quote is on repeat right now for a reason.)

Wooo! It's a holiday!
My kids are out again and we were on vacay again!  Today's email is going to be quick.

Priorities.
HELLOOO.
I am learning so much about your priorities and your actions.
In-depth and in details.
And at scale.

Here's the consistent problem.
It's hard to focus.
It's hard to accomplish what it is that you want.
You have responsibilities and priorities that pull you in many different directions.

And these responsibilities are keeping you from accomplishing...
I know.
I am there with you too.
Last week, my little one had 104+ temperature for 5 solid days.
Every time she rolled over she would scream "WATER!" and have me running to help her!

How was I supposed to do my work when my little 5 yo priority was my biggest priority?

Start by focusing on ONE THING.
Not two.
Not three.
Not four.
Not 600 that are coming at you.
ONE THING.

That way you can grow every day.
That way I can grow every day.

Do one thing that will help you grow.
One thing that matters.

Then you get back to the distractions.
The little big priorities.

And your kid doesn't have to ask
"Where were you?"

Okay.  Here it is.

It's time.

Take a deep breath.

Think of something magical.
Maybe George-y poo back in the 90s.

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

Mmmmm.....

Let me tell you this email is an act of love.

We are officially into the Week 1 of New Year and frustration is looming.
Frustration has either hit you hard or is right there... just waiting for you to lose it.

Lose, not your control, but lose your excitement.

And here I am to tell you...
Don't. Let. That. Happen.

Your New Year's Resolutions, that thing you so wanted and allowed yourself to dream of... that's on you.
And you alone.

I have done the same thing you are doing now.

The doc says I am "sensitive" to literally every food I eat.
The girls' schedule is packed up again even with my best foot forward.
Then "exciting news" is brought home... MORE homework!  😁

I was excited to get back to work after a long winter's break and so was my husband. He has allllll sorts of time-consuming family projects for me to take care of!

The New Year is here.
And it was here.

You have goals.  You have visions of 2018 will look like.
But then the snow came in.
And the kids stayed home.
And goodness gracious this terrible flu that is going around.

Not mention living with the selfishness of SILs and allllll the other things.

But here's the point.
2018 won't be what you so hope unless you do the work too.
That means, keep your excitement alive inside, even though you kiddo is pulling on your leg.
That means, committing to not giving up
To learning.
To trying new things.
To doing, yes taking action on new things.

To taking a no, or crickets, or a bad idea and moving to the next thing.

You have to take new action to get new results.
I get it that there's snow and cases of flu and all sorts of things.

That's life.
That's this life that will never change.
There will always be the never-ending to-do list.

And there will always be the thing you have always wanted.
The waiting list.
The free time.
The ... not having guilt.
The. The. The.

None of it is going to happen unless you
Do the work.
Fight for it.
Commit to it.
And most importantly ... Decide.

Do what you need to do.  Think of magical George.  Blackberry Farm.  Sweet quiet time by yourself.
Then.
Do.
The.
Work.

--> Just yesterday Facebook announced major changes in its feed.  You'll see more of your friends' postings and fewer brands.    #traditionalbusinessisback #seekmoreconnection

“Recently we’ve gotten feedback from our community that public content — posts from businesses, brands and media — is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained in a post on Thursday.

Then he added something else surprising: Facebook expects the change will mean that people will spend less time using the service.

“Now, I want to be clear: by making these changes, I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down,” he wrote. “But I also expect the time you do spend on Facebook will be more valuable.”

"Power is not given to you.  You have to take it." Beyonce

(This Beyonce quote is on repeat right now for a reason.)

Let me start out by saying that money matters.
Anyone that says differently is a fool.

When you have money, extra money, that is, it changes everything in your life.

Your sense of freedom.
Your sense of security.
Your sense of pride.
Your ability to take action in one form or another.

That's the truth.
I have lived my life being the richest kid on the block and also being the poorest.
I know both sides of the tracks, I have certainly lived them.

Money makes life easier.
Not necessarily happier, I don't buy that line of BS.
But it definitely makes life easier.

That's why my work's focus is on creating income.

Income streams.
Capitalizing on what you have,
what you think about,
what the opportunities are and then going after them one by one.

Until you have 5 or 6 systematized and growing income streams.
That's my goal in life anyway.
For me and my clients.

Roller coasters are great and all, but only @ Disneyland.

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

Reduce the roller coaster.
Look for scale.
Look for ease.

I had no problem driving two hours to meet with the celeb I had been coveting for a year+.
She was funny as heck.  Funny as I had ever seen in a woman.
Her persona online and in person drove tears of laughter.

But one look at what she was doing, she was missing out on a ton of opportunity.
A ton of financial opportunity.

I get it.  She was so focused on her primary craft she didn't have the know-how, much less the time, to take advantage of the opportunities in front of her.

So I was thrilled when I finally got the call to come in and meet.

And then she was rude.
And impatient.
And ... condescending
Not just to me but to the others in the room.

Sure, I want the money.
Money matters.
But toxic headaches matter more.
There was no ease in this client.

I am old enough, wise enough and perhaps, rich enough to eliminate the toxic.

Here are my humble advice and my own pure focus for 2018.
Healthy living:  Toxic is out, ruthlessly.  Positive energy is in.
Money matters:  Grow with excitement and ease.

"Power is not given to you.  You have to take it." Beyonce

(This Beyonce quote is on repeat right now for a reason.)

Let 2018 begin not only a new year for us but a new movement.
More so than the (ah-mazing) women's movement happening but to also, very intentional, real tangible growth.
In our businesses and in our personal lives.

I have had a zillion conversations these last few weeks with entrepreneurs.  In fact, I have 10 more conversations scheduled for this week alone and would have more, but honestly, I am running out of room!

Here's what I am learning and it should be little surprise to you.
People are making money.  Many are making good money.
Many don't really care about making tons of money but would rather have further security, consistency, and yes, of course, some growth too.

This is the story that's repeated over and over again.
And the question that is asked of me over and over again is HOW.
How do we create more without adding mass amounts of work to our already over-filled schedules?

To me, and my clients, we see results in mixing both online business and traditional business practices.

That's what makes someone stand out.
Relationships.  Authenticity.  Excitement.

When I first met Erin Kelly of Member Vault this past year she was doing something no one was talking about anymore.
Talking with your customers.
Engaging with your customers.
Keeping up with your customers.

I was so floored by her innovation and uniqueness in this online space.  You mean, engage with your customer??

That's how you stand out!
You return to old business practices and become a real person again!

Erin and Mike are champions at keeping your tribe, your customers and your stalkers engaged, active and wanting to return for more.
I know b/c I am one of them.  Part of their tribe (self-declared), a customer (heck yeah) and a bit of a not-so-creepy stalker.

You ask me how do I stay up to date and on top of the most important trends?  I stay connected with these two.

3%.

If you're serious about making this change, this is what I suggest:

1.  Think BIG.  Point blank big is scary.  Big requires real action.  Intentional action.  Are you going to lose that final 10 lbs of post-baby weight or are you going to get in that fabulous dress you've had hung in your closet for more than a year now?  You're going to get in that dress, wear it, flaunt it and have fun with it by April 15th.

How about having regular and recurring income?  That would be nice to have too, right?  How about consistent 5-figure income and a system in place to generate more with each month passing?
Ask yourself how much and by when?

2.  Think about the pain in your life.  Say what??  Yes, think about the pain.  Pain drives change.  Comfortable living keeps you at status quo.  Pain drives change.  When you touch a burning stove what do you do?  Instinctively move away!  When you remember and live with the pain, you work to make things that much better!  Your drive is increased!

3.  Create space in your life for the change.  You have to do the work to change.  That means new learning and new habits.  That means you have to create space in your life for something new.  That means you have to dedicate hours of your life, hours of your work for this new change.   It takes work and anyone who says otherwise is a fool.  Talk to your family, your business partner, your kiddos if you need to.  Have the conversation with yourself and anyone else you need to, to create the space required.

4.  Get help.  New change requires new learning.  You don't know what you don't know so here's the deal.  Dive in!  Dive right in!   Don't hesitate.  Read something.  Talk to someone.  Interview another.  Shadow.  Mentor.  Whatever you need to do.  Do it.  That also means get a partner-in-crime.  Yes, an accountability partner.  Not a friend, not a foe but a real deal partner to keep you moving forward.

5.  Decide.  Don't roll your eyes!  You have to decide that this is the moment where your goals and resolutions will become true.  Fact is this is probably the single most important step.  Either you are in or you are out.  Either you will or you won't.  There's no other way about it.  Decide and move forward.

What's your big goal for 2018?

Lead Ladies Lead.

--> Worth repeating... Have you heard the story about asking Harvard MBAs what their goals were?  The cliff notes version is that only 3% wrote down their goals and when they checked back in 10 years those 3 out of 100 people that had written goals were earning, on average, 10 times as much as the other 97 percent of the class combined.

Money isn't everything but that kind of money is something.

Write. It. Down.

Manage This.

--> Did you know there's a productivity diet out there? I am not going to lie, I am intrigued...

--> If you're as forgetful as I am, you (and I) need these tools to remember people, places, and things!

Give.

--> "Whatever the opposite of FOMO is, I have that. I am too busy living my life to worry about what other people are doing."  I love what Microsoft's Dona Sarkar says about living such a life.  Focus on you girl.  Give yourself that gift.

Last but not least.

--> We are currently interviewing women to be featured here in The Power Squad Project.  If you would like to be considered or know someone who would, please let us know

--> Our new Mission Accomplished Accountability program is ramping up with real live results and we are working on adding new exclusives.  If you sign up now, we'll add a free 30-minute consultation to help you ensure you have the right kind of goals set!

Quick side note from Ashleigh.  Here are my most favorite tools ever.

  • For audio motivation - Relentless by Tim Grover. I listen to him as I was in the mornings.  My walk always becomes a power walk after listening.
  • To focus during the day I love to focus@will.  They say music helps you focus and for me it surely does.  I blare the classical music.  I am not sure how many people my age choose that over techno but either way I love it.
  • Rosemarie Groner (from the Busy Budgeter) is a friend and I just LOVE how much she gives everything away.  She tells you and anyone she can her detailed way to making money!  Start with her Pinterest Strategy Guide that is worth every penny.  Not. going. to. lie.
