Here's an open secret.

Everyone assumes I am a pretty big agency or consulting firm.
That I bigger than I am.

Just last week someone said to me "your team must be huge!"
Huge?  No.

There is a perception that in order to "play with the big dogs" you have also haveto be a big dog.
But it's just not true.

Take it from me, you just have to go for it.
Just have to go for the big dog.

Like any entrepreneur and growing business I have had my struggles,
I have had my challenges both publically and privately.
But I don't ever stop that from operating in the space I so choose.
The space I desire.

I learn and grow through the embarrassment.

AND
For better or worse, I typically dive right in.
Even if it's not always pretty...

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

So here's what I am consistently asked.

How do I have the confidence to go after celebrities and bigwigs?
I don't believe my mistakes and failures define me.
I believe they are a part of the larger testing process.
And I don't judge you for your mess and I don't judge myself for my mess.

How do I get in touch with them?
I just do.
I study them (usually because I want to learn something from them)
and then I make the right effort.

For me, it's a part of a long-term process.
The testing process.
To a grander vision.

As a small fish today, I am diving even though if it's pretty ugly.
I am testing and I am growing.

What are you working on?  Testing in your grander vision?
Think on it...

And on fire.
And like it's time to rock the boat.
I don't know if it's that I am obsessed with this song

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

If it's the mood or the moon.
Perhaps it's that my team is in the best groove of its life.

That I have had so much FUN connecting with my peers, colleagues, and friends throughout the week!
I mean - why oh why did I fight having a Facebook group for so long?!

The shares are relevant, real and hellooo some are even eye-popping!
But it's the deeper connections.
One week in and I am hooked!

But here's the thing.
It's more than okay to be different.

You know I love Sara Blakely from Spanx.
She invented a new version underwear!
She revolutionized the industry!
And ... let's not forget how many people called her nutso.  Said she was crazy.
And that "ummm... are you sure about this idea?"

It's OKAY to be different.
You are different.
And you are different than your competition.   Inherently.
And ummm.. hello shapewear is expected to a $5 billion industry (which Sara created) by 2022!
No SERIOUSLY!!

Think on it.
It's time to rock. the. boat.
Your boat.

And then I read this post and nodded my head.

Exactly, I am picking 3.
I am doing all 5 but only 3 at a time.

I enjoy it.
My kids always want something too.

You're showing me you appreciate me in my space.

Last but not least.

Don't discount any idea you have.
There's room and space there.
Think of Sara Blakely and how truly revolutionary it was to the marketplace.

"It is here on this court that I learned that losing

Happy Sunday Love!

Sundays for me are resting, rejuvenating, getting organized and daydreaming.
It's a new kind of way to relax!

Every Sunday in 2018 we are featuring power women.
Some women are in my life and inside my circle.
Some outside.
I have been digging further into strong women, leaders and learning about power people right in front of us.

I wanted to see what successful women were doing.
Thinking.
How they were behaving.
I wanted to know what the Power women were doing.
Are doing.
I wanted to know who was #100 of the Top Lists.
Of course, Oprah or someone is #1.
It's interesting that Beyonce is #50.
So who is #100.
And that's how I came inspired by Beth Brooke-Marciniak.

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

Who & What

Beth Brooke-Marciniak, a former basketball star recruits female athletes on way to top as head of public policy at professional services firm EY (formerly Ernst & Young).

She's been featured in Forbes Top 100 Power Women 5 times.

They thought she'd never walk again...

When Beth was 13 she was told she would not walk again after developing a degenerative hip disease.
After surgery, she forced herself to lift her leg for “hours” as physiotherapy. Beth not only learned to walk again but was among the first women to receive a basketball scholarship at Purdue University.

On being the only woman in a board meeting...

"I know for me, even my first board meeting at (Ernst Young), I remember trying to voice an opinion and getting knocked back. It's just because I was the only woman in the room, but at the time it felt like everything that had gotten me there wasn't going to keep me there and I really ... drew on that athletics background to just think about it, what had happened, what needed to be different and you just go forward."

On being an athlete AND a successful businesswoman...

"We're actually starting to show that it's not just coincidence. The success in sport does have a very significant correlation to success in business."

"I mean, so many of our women are former athletes and yet no one was talking about it and no one knew it, I think the women who are former athletes have undervalued their own experience. It's almost like they're closeted athletes now and so I think we can help create those networks. They're there because there are so many former athletes."

When others put you down...

"When society's telling you you're this or you're that, you've proven on the court or on the field that you can overcome anything. You can overcome a team telling you that you're no good. ... You just don't want to listen to whatever anyone is going to tell you because success will be defined on the scoreboard and that's all that matters."

On being...

"We like to say you can be what you see."

Don't you just love her?!
Hope you have some inspiration as you start a new week!

"I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money." Pablo Picasso

It's been a fun and very busy week over here at Office de Blatt.
The most fun has been in having real-life conversations about business, how-tos and thoughts about in my new Facebook Group - Cash Flow Creative.
It's been fun to really put ideas out there and connect with others on them.

The other funny thing has been the comment on the cover photo where my picture is FRONT and CENTER.
🙈
I have been getting private messages about how they love it.
I have to remember - I am slow but surely stepping from behind-the-scenes to the front!

So so weird and so so awkward!
But ha!
Come join us!
Join the conversation!

One of the interesting things I have learned is how many people are doing 1:1 services and how many people are (or aren't) bring in additional income.
Business growth requires increased income.

Right now I am reading 80/20 Marketing and am loving it.
It's a deep dive into how your business has income streams in so many levels.
In one business a single customer can bring in $1 or $1MM.
The idea is to capture all types of customers.

I love that.  It's something similar that I repeat to my clients all the time.
I LOVE getting messages that say "You've received $78.80."
That's real money!  That's money that goes to my kiddos and after-school snack and manicures on Fridays.
Not every Friday... no
But whether you have a high-end client
or a client that only brings in a few dollars
that's money to you
and appreciation in them.

The best way to get over the hurdle of team management.
Communication.

Communication.

That means status meetings.
And working together.
Until you don't have to work together and need to get stuff done.

AND I love the fact that Elon Musk just said, if you find yourself in a bad meeting, just stand up and leave.

Manage This.

--> But here's the thing about managing your time
and your business.
You have to be in the right mindset.
Build one income stream and immediately jump into the next.

That's how you get the peace
and freedom
and ease
you dreamed of
when you initially started your business

Give.

--> Hellloooo - you have to give to yourself.
Change is not an overnight thing.
I started listening to this meditation again and it's truly the best gift I could give myself.
I listen both in the morning and as I fall asleep.
Can we say #gamechanger?!

It's time to pivot.

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

When I was 22 I left the job I hated with no backup job and no idea what I was going to do.

All I knew was that on my last day of work when my workday was over I hit the road for a 5-hour drive to DC in my 1985 Honda Prelude.

It was packed to the brims with everything I owned.
I had cleaned out my apartment, said goodbye to my roommate,
fulfilled my commitment at work and then hit the road to the unknown.

When I was 27 I left my near-government job (super secure job) to start my own firm.
I traveled the country and
I had a partner, yes, but we just went all in.

GAME ON.

When I was 32, I left the Right Coast for the Left Coast.
Turned everything in to have babies and "play tennis"!

AND THEN...

I started podcasting
and then I started consulting one customer at a time.
I started offering services.
Started just helping out.

Careers grow as you do.
Businesses grow as you do.

I am a completely different person than I was at 22 and 27 and 32 and 37.
Imagine what would have happened if my business would have stayed the same.
How boring.
And unsustainable.

When is it time to pivot?

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

When you know.
When you get too comfortable.
When you get too bored.
When you get too stable.
When you aren't growing as you hope.
Or as you dream.
When your stomach tells you, this is what's right.

When I was 22, I left my job and temped for 2 months before I was offered another job making over $20,000 more than my-fancy-consulting-firm job.
When I was 27, I jumped into the unknown.  I remember thinking "are we really doing this?"  Within 18 mos we had a 7-figure business.
When I was 32, I finished out my last of last contracts and the next week, I delivered my first baby nearly a month early.

Wouldn't it have been disastrous if I didn't change?
If I didn't move forward?

And in the present, my business has changed.
It has grown.
It's taken 2 steps forward and 1 step back.
And while I have been working, I have been listening.

So on this Wednesday,
on this Hump Day,
on this "Take the Bull by the Horn Day"

You don't need more data or news.
There's no lessons from outside.
Just this single story.

To remind you to listen within.

It's always a good time to take the bull by the horns.
To take control.
And to pivot... even with Ross around! ;)

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

What is on your plan?
What is in our stomach?
What is on your mind?
Think on it and then take action.

"If human beings are perceived as potentials rather than problems, as possessing strengths instead of weaknesses, as unlimited rather than dull and unresponsive, then they thrive and grow to their capabilities." Barbara Bush

Barbara Bush is on my mind.  She was "The Matriarch" and "The Enforcer."
She thought those who worried too much about their hair were boring.
And in all her 92 years she never colored her own.

She was married to a president and raised a president.
She took a 3rd president under her wings.

She started every meeting with "What is the purpose?"
That single question has come to be used a model for the working moms who need to be efficient and thoughtful.

My girls are on my mind.
My mother too.

The fact that I have been sick a lot too.

Philanthropy at its core is "an act or gift done or made for humanitarian purposes."

I think of my work as a service.
Don't you?
If the purpose of our meetings are to create ease, confidence and ability isn't that philanthropy?

I think Step 1 is acknowledging the good work we are doing.
That you are doing.

--> Older workers don't love chat.
I must be old!
I fell into that trap years ago but quickly realized I was trapped to my computer and being on call for whoever decided to message me.

Give.

--> We all know that TOMS gives a pair of shoes away with every purchase you make.
You buy one, they give one.
Now there are at least 16 other companies that are following that exact business model.
Philanthropy is built into the business model.
#foodforthought

Last but not least.

I want to create more change too.
Give further.
While many people are running from Facebook I am diving in.
I have created the Creative Cash Flow Facebook group
It's a private pop-up with the intention to share share share.

I will be answering all the questions.
All the asks.
And connecting the dots.

The best groups I have seen and been a part of are not about promotion but about giving value.
Helping your friends and colleagues out.

With new income and increased income in mind, we will present.
Come and play!

Today I am featuring a woman you most definitely heard of, the loved and beloved, Barbara Bush

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

Who & What

Barbara Bush is the only woman to be both the wife of a president (#41) and mother to another (#43).
She even considered Bill Clinton (#42) a son too.

On Tuesday this past week, Barbara Bush passed in her home holding her husband of 73 years hand.

Family is everything...

"To us, family means putting your arms around each other and being there."
"You have to love your children unselfishly. That is hard. But it is the only way."

"Your success as a family... our success as a nation... depends not on what happens inside the White House, but on what happens inside your house."

THE POWER SQUAD PROJECT

On giving...

"Some people give time, some money, some their skills and connections, some literally give their life's blood. But everyone has something to give."

"I hate the fact that people think 'compromise' is a dirty word."

On reading and literacy.

She raised over $110 million in 30 years for literacy.  That was her passion.

"The home is the child's first school, the parent is the child's first teacher, and reading is the child's first subject."

You are a force.

"Whether you are talking about education, career, or service, you are talking about life. And life must really have joy. It's supposed to be fun."
"Believe in something larger than yourself... get involved in the big ideas of your time."
"People who worry about their hair all the time, frankly, are boring."

On and on and on I could go sharing about her.
She was just wonderful and will be missed.

Hope you have some inspiration as you start a new week!

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” Albert Einstein

There’s a song called “Rain is a Good Thing” that’s been bouncing around in my head ever since last weekend when one of the girls that I was with would not stop singing it.

She’s great...she just really, really loves that song, and it got stuck in my head, too.
So I was responding to emails yesterday and as I was reassuring someone that this amazing Power Squad Project is only getting better, it hit me.

Rain is a good thing.
CHANGE is a good thing.
I haven’t felt this fired up in a long time, and there’s a reason.
Change is on the horizon, and each time I’ve made a major change to my business it’s only brought me closer to doing what I love.

Working with MY kind of clients, MY hand-picked team.

And yes, while change can be scary, it’s very definitely a good thing.
And necessary if you want your business to grow.

Change means evolution, it means bigger, and often better.

Rain is a good thing!

--> Now everyone is jumping on the convenience delivery bandwagon.  I mean... does anyone actually go to Costco anymore??  Hellooo... Instacart!
How can you change too?

Manage This.

--> Even small changes can make a big impact.  Look outside your current structure, your current process and status quo.
One small change can be so good.
Maybe a joining a mastermind or group coaching program.
Maybe it's that accountability program that's lurking around...
Maybe hiring a VA or an assistant for those extra tasks
Shoot, simply start your morning out in a different manner.
One small change can make a big, big difference.

Give.

--> Give to your local community.
This is 1000X the best thing you can do for you and your business.
Karma comes first.
