4 Hours & $5,000 for a pair of glasses?

"Kindness is just love with its work boots on." Karen McCullah & Kirsten Smith

I hope you had a good weekend and are ready for this week ahead.  It's going to be a busy one.
Why?  To state the obvious, because Christmas is here and everything shuts down so you can prepare.

Before we get into what you will buy, managing your to-do lists and shopping lists, etc I want to share a conversation with you I had this past week.

I was at lunch with a friend and client and we were discussing his amazing glasses.
You see, it's worth the conversation.
He flies from California to Paris to be fitted for and to pick up his custom-made eyewear.
Yes, you heard that right.
A trip to Paris for eyewear.

This place is so completely rockstar.
And of course, I had to tease and play with him for being a pseudo-rockstar for taking such actions!

But listen to this!

It takes FOUR HOURS to measure the face.
For my friend, he was concerned about the bridge as he had broken his nose long ago and "mass market" eyewear never stayed on straight.

For him, they made the bridge fit perfectly.
They made the arms longer than a traditional pair too for the perfect fit.
The prescription in the lens is that much more precise than American-made.
And of course, the material is perfectly beautiful.
One pair was tortoise.  I don't recall the material of the 2nd pair.

Did I mention that they were $5,000 a pair?

My friend told me how he spent hours on the 4 hours with them on the first visit and another 2 hours days later when we went to pick up them up.
They are a custom fit pair and no detail was lost.

No. Detail. Was. Lost.

That's the point of the story.  A tiny little, non-descript place in Paris that makes custom eyewear for my friend and for people like Jackie O.

Because of their thoughtfulness.

People in business call that "attention to detail".
I beg to differ.
I don't think my friend and many others would fly 1/2 way around the world for the "attention to detail".
Their experience was of utmost grace and thoughtfulness.
Think about it.

Lead Ladies Lead.

--> As you run around this week and get your final work-life-holiday balance ducks in a row remember, it's genuine thoughtfulness that matters.  Not the money, the thoughtfulness.

--> The Simpsons predicted Disney would buy 20th Century Fox!  All trends and news don't have to come from traditional sources nor does it have to be boring!

--> Forget the presents.  Give a compliment.
Here's how... Tell someone what you like about them or how they act and then tell them why it matters.

Here are some sample scripts.  Do it now and you'll be beaming too!
"I love that you _____, it makes me _____."
"I admire how you are able to ____ because it really _____."
"I'm impressed with your ability to _____ because it _______."

Last but not least.

--> I have had several conversations this week about "How to know if *now* is the right time to start a new project! "  So I did a quick video on it!  Please let me know how you know...

Quick side note from Ashleigh.  Here are my most favorite tools ever.

  • For audio motivation - Relentless by Tim Grover. I listen to him as I was in the mornings.  My walk always becomes a power walk after listening.
  • To focus during the day I love to focus@will.  They say music helps you focus and for me it surely does.  I blare the classical music.  I am not sure how many people my age choose that over techno but either way I love it.
