"Now is the time to become a myth." Diane von Furstenberg

Sundays for me are resting, rejuvenating, getting organized and daydreaming.
It's a new kind of way to relax!

Every Sunday in 2018 we are featuring power women.
Some women are in my life and inside my circle.
Some outside.
I have been digging further into strong women, leaders and learning about power people right in front of us.

I feel like Diane von Furstenberg is our Madame Leader.  To me, her grace and strength without words is the goal.
Grace is not the gift I have been given so I look up to her as the example of owning who you are and knowing that you can be beautiful on the inside and out and incredibly powerful however you choose.

I have *just* started her biography The Woman I Wanted To Be and am *obsessed*.

Who & What

Icon Diane Von Furstenberg is infamously known for the wrap dress.  I was 26 when I invented the wrap dress. It was just a nothing little-printed dress made out of jersey, and before I know it, I lived an American dream making more than 25,000 dresses a week.

I wanted to be an independent woman, a woman who could pay for her bills, a woman who could run her own life - and I became that woman.

The real story is that I am very free, that I've managed to be who I wanted to be without compromising

On fashion...

Fashion is mysterious as a rule. Why are blue jeans classic? You just hit on something that happens to be timeless and right.

My definition of beauty is strength and personality.

I design for the woman who loves being a woman.

On building your business...

Clarity is the most important thing. I can compare clarity to pruning in gardening. You know, you need to be clear. If you are not clear, nothing is going to happen. You have to be clear. Then you have to be confident about your vision. And after that, you just have to put a lot of work in.

I was terrified the first time that I had a big problem in my business. I was obviously terrified when they diagnosed me with cancer in 1994. I was terrified when my son used to drive too fast. But I do believe in the fact that fear is not an option, so I always try to face it and not be afraid.

On life...

Fear is not an option... Don’t dwell on the dark side of things, but look for the light and build around it. If one door closes, look for another one to open.... Never, ever, blame others for what befalls you, no matter how horrible it might be. Trust you, and only you, to be responsible for your own life.

The most important relationship in your life is the relationship you have with yourself. Because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself.

Just don't go to a place where everything is too expensive... it'll put your husband in a bad mood.

I never get in fights and I have no memory of pain.

Generosity is the best investment.

What to do...

Insecurity is a waste of time.  My best friend is me, and I take good care of me.

Beware of your thoughts for they become words, beware of your words for they become actions, beware of your actions for they become habits, beware of your habits for they become character, beware of your character for it becomes your destiny.

I don't like to talk about my dreams. I like to make them happen. I prefer to talk about them when they're done.

This is soo me.

I wanted to be an empowered woman, and I became an empowered woman. And now I want to empower every woman. And I do it through my clothes, I do it through my words, I do it through my money, I do it through everything.

All women are the same, really: They are strong, but they are afraid of their own strength.

The older I get, the more impressed I am with women. I have yet to meet a woman who is not strong. They don't exist.

Be a woman. Never forget to be a woman.

The idea of being able to go into Studio 54 alone is what thrilled me the most: again, a man's life in a woman's body

Don't you just love her?!  Hope you have some inspiration as you start a new week!

Quick side note from Ashleigh.  Here are my most favorite tools ever.

  • For audio motivation - Relentless by Tim Grover. I listen to him as I was in the mornings.  My walk always becomes a power walk after listening.
  • To focus during the day I love to focus@will.  They say music helps you focus and for me it surely does.  I blare the classical music.  I am not sure how many people my age choose that over techno but either way I love it.
  • Rosemarie Groner (from the Busy Budgeter) is a friend and I just LOVE how much she gives everything away.  She tells you and anyone she can her detailed way to making money!  Start with her Pinterest Strategy Guide that is worth every penny.  Not. going. to. lie.
