I did the same thing you're doing.

"Power is not given to you.  You have to take it." Beyonce

(This Beyonce quote is on repeat right now for a reason.)

Okay.  Here it is.

It's time.

Take a deep breath.

Think of something magical.
Maybe George-y poo back in the 90s.

Let me tell you this email is an act of love.

We are officially into the Week 1 of New Year and frustration is looming.
Frustration has either hit you hard or is right there... just waiting for you to lose it.

Lose, not your control, but lose your excitement.

And here I am to tell you...
Don't. Let. That. Happen.

Your New Year's Resolutions, that thing you so wanted and allowed yourself to dream of... that's on you.
And you alone.

I have done the same thing you are doing now.

The doc says I am "sensitive" to literally every food I eat.
The girls' schedule is packed up again even with my best foot forward.
Then "exciting news" is brought home... MORE homework!  😁

I was excited to get back to work after a long winter's break and so was my husband. He has allllll sorts of time-consuming family projects for me to take care of!

The New Year is here.
And it was here.

You have goals.  You have visions of 2018 will look like.
But then the snow came in.
And the kids stayed home.
And goodness gracious this terrible flu that is going around.

Not mention living with the selfishness of SILs and allllll the other things.

But here's the point.
2018 won't be what you so hope unless you do the work too.
That means, keep your excitement alive inside, even though you kiddo is pulling on your leg.
That means, committing to not giving up
To learning.
To trying new things.
To doing, yes taking action on new things.

To taking a no, or crickets, or a bad idea and moving to the next thing.

You have to take new action to get new results.
I get it that there's snow and cases of flu and all sorts of things.

That's life.
That's this life that will never change.
There will always be the never-ending to-do list.

And there will always be the thing you have always wanted.
The waiting list.
The free time.
The ... not having guilt.
The. The. The.

None of it is going to happen unless you
Do the work.
Fight for it.
Commit to it.
And most importantly ... Decide.

Do what you need to do.  Think of magical George.  Blackberry Farm.  Sweet quiet time by yourself.

Lead Ladies Lead.

--> Just yesterday Facebook announced major changes in its feed.  You'll see more of your friends' postings and fewer brands.    #traditionalbusinessisback #seekmoreconnection

“Recently we’ve gotten feedback from our community that public content — posts from businesses, brands and media — is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained in a post on Thursday.

Then he added something else surprising: Facebook expects the change will mean that people will spend less time using the service.

“Now, I want to be clear: by making these changes, I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down,” he wrote. “But I also expect the time you do spend on Facebook will be more valuable.”

-->THINKING ridiculous and thinking big!  I think this post is worth putting out there again.  What is RIDICULOUS?  Exciting?  Something you would never ever tell anyone else that you secretly dream of?   That's what these business superstars, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos (satire) New Year's Resolutions have in common

Manage This.

--> I was on the phone with a friend of mine who is the CEO of a financial services firm.  I knew her when they were just building up their business.  Now they are approached for acquisition all. the. time.   We have the best of conversations.  She loves Business like I do.  Some people watch Reality TV, not us.  We love the inside stories of businesses, their owners, their ins and outs like it's a crazy episode of Real Housewives of New Jersey.  We have both seen it all.  And we love to support all kinds of entrepreneurs.

Last night we had a long overdue gab session.  And hands down we both agreed that the most successful entrepreneurs were the ones that looked at the data.
Raw data.
KPI data.
Pie Charts and bar graphs oh my!

--> Give your customers some surprise and delight.  That's what will turn them into raving fans.  Erin and Mike Kelly were showing us this week how to do just that... One way?  Birthday cards.  Another?  Follow up notes.  Thank you notes.  I sent a thank you note to an author I loved and beloved and guess what.  We now have an active relationship.  I can email him and he me.

Last but not least.

--> This old post, How to Organize Your Life in One Single Afternoon, is being read again and again and again.

--> I was honored to be asked to participate in Adrienne Dorison's book Earn More to Give More.  Of course, I am last in the book, as I am guessing the final message is always: "You're doing a great job!"

Quick side note from Ashleigh.  Here are my most favorite tools ever.

  • For audio motivation - Relentless by Tim Grover. I listen to him as I was in the mornings.  My walk always becomes a power walk after listening.
  • To focus during the day I love to focus@will.  They say music helps you focus and for me it surely does.  I blare the classical music.  I am not sure how many people my age choose that over techno but either way I love it.
  • Rosemarie Groner (from the Busy Budgeter) is a friend and I just LOVE how much she gives everything away.  She tells you and anyone she can her detailed way to making money!  Start with her Pinterest Strategy Guide that is worth every penny.  Not. going. to. lie.

PS- We think you may be interested in these too!
