"Always go for the choice that scares you the most because that's the one that will help you grow." -Caroline Myss
This week has been a #gameon mode. I have channeled my inner Beyonce, Olivia Pope, Martha Stewart and Rachel Green all in one week.
It's been fun running into mom friends on the soccer field, talking shop with my business besties and keeping up with life and work in general!
It's a refresh and reminder that I believe we can (and do) do it all.
We are even working on some really fun and exciting stuff for The Power Squad Project that I can't wait to share with you all!
It's been one of those weeks.
I can't wait for the Friday cocktail hour!
But seriously, it's been GAME ON. GAME ON. GAME ON.
But what I didn't expect was a very serious conversation about my daughter's allergies.
This changed every priority.
Every feeling inside.
And with calm, ease and grace (on the outside) I politely discussed how my daughter has severe allergies and even though there is no formal policy around not having tree nuts near her, we need to ensure she is and will be safe.
Of course on the other end, they want to keep my girl safe.
"Let's keep her safe and make things fair for the other children."
Let's do that.
I am not at a clear end of this story yet.
But I am confident that we will come to an agreement and go on our merry ways. With my girl as safe as I need her to be.
It's that kind of decision.
The reason I share this story with you is because there are moments in your life when you just decide.
You decide THIS is how it will be.
THIS is the change that is going to occur.
THIS is what is right.
You know it because you FEEL it.
Not every decision is a life or death decision. I get that. But I can certainly name the real intentional decisions that have been made.
I know my very specific times when I "just decided"
Spring of 2015. I walked inside my dream house and decided I had to have it. And I bought it.
January 1, 2016. I decided I was changing my life. And I did.
Spring of 2017. I was changing my business. And I did.
This internal mama bear mode happens. It's this trigger. This force. This thing that's within.
And then the nothing is going to stop me decision.
Of course what's happening with my girl is one thing but it reminded me of the trigger.
The decision. The action. And the power behind the "nothing is going to stop me" mode.
Game on ladies. Game on.
LEAD. Lovelies. Lead.
--> How did Mister Rogers Raise $140 Million for PBS in Just 7 Minutes?
"Rogers was spellbinding. This was not a Shark Tank pitch. There were no elaborate demonstrations, waving of arms, special effects or glitz. Rogers was sweet, yet firm. He was mild, yet passionate. He quickly made his credentials clear and then got to the heart of the issue. He was fluent in his topic and worked with few notes. He was calm and measured in his testimony, not rushed or over-enthusiastic. He asked for permission to speak and respectfully responded to questions. Rogers connected his audience with his product, a TV show aimed at children, by appealing to their own experience as children. He made sure to convey his mission, which was not to profit but to give his young audience 'an expression of care each day' so that they would realize that they're unique and that, famously, 'I like you just the way you are.'"
--> Thursday Night Football is offered to Amazon Prime members. Live video on Amazon Prime. Amazon is leading by offering things their consumers want and can only get with membership. Think on what you could add for your customers?
--> Give yourself the gift of knowing that you didn't invent hairy selfie nails. Yes. I like to remind myself and, of course, my husband that I didn't waste our money on some crazy idea. Chances are you aren't either!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST.
--> I have received a few emails lately getting the full digest of hope and frustration in building the dream business. That lifestyle business. You know me - I believe we can have it all. All of it. The cake. The frosting. The Veuve to go with! I love (LOVE) connecting with you and learning more about you! Would you take a 2 minute mini-survey? I want to learn more and more about you!!
--> A couple of friends I know use this really great popup for their site to direct users to their favorite social media site like Instagram or Facebook. I love the tool so much and once I heard a woman created it - I had to interview her on the podcast! This week I talked with Jillian Tobher Leslie from Catch My Party (a crazy success party planning blog) and MiloTree. After our conversation I wanted to hug her and go to a conference with her to meet her IRL like we talked about!
Quick side note from Ashleigh. Here are my most favorite tools ever.
- For audio motivation - Relentless by Tim Grover. I listen to him as I was in the mornings. My walk always becomes a power walk after listening.
- To focus during the day I love to focus@will. They say music helps you focus and for me it surely does. I blare the classical music. I am not sure how many people my age choose that over techno but either way I love it.
